Offered here is a scarce original large poster from the 1918 Liberty Tournament hosted by the USGA in support of the American Red Cross. This War Effort poster has been mounted on linen to 26 1/4" x 45" overall and the poster itself measures 22" x 41". This is an incredible piece of Americana.
This poster dates back to World War I when the USGA and other golf associations in America assisted the country in raising money for the War Efforts. The 1917 Liberty Tournament (also held on the 4th of July) was a huge success, with over 485 clubs around the country participating and raising near $100,000. The following year, the USGA hosted another Liberty Tournament on the 4th of July which also saw strong national participation.
These Liberty Tournaments, as well as the War Effort exhibitions staged by the USGA, resulted in a huge golf boom after World War 1 (even greater than the current post-COVID boom).
