World Golf Hall of Fame Collection
We have partnered with the World Golf Hall of Fame to bring our clients some important treasures from its collection. Next year the World Golf Hall of Fame migrates to a smaller footprint in Pinehurst, NC after 25 years at its Florida location. This presented a perfect opportunity to share some relics not making the trip to our network of golf collectors around the globe.
Original 1836 "Plan of The Golfing Course Over the Links of St Andrews" by W&J Chalmers
Offered here an original 1836 map of the Old Course at St Andrews by W&J Chalmers. The official title is "Plan of The Golfing Course Over the Links of St Andrews Surveyed by Order of The Royal St Andrews Golfing Society by W&J Chalmers, Perth, 1836."
Truly historic large map of the Old Course and the surrounding town of St Andrews. Even back in 1836 this map identifies numerous legendary features of the Old Course still recognizable to golfers today including Hell bunker, Principal's Nose bunker, Coffin bunkers, Ginger Beer hole and bunkers, and Elysian Fields. One feature on this ancient map that will be a surprise to most golfers is the massive bunker located in the middle of the now bunker-less 1st and 18th holes - where Granny Clark's Wynd now exists. This bunker, called Halket's bunker, was removed 182 years ago in 1840.
This extraordinary map is being consigned today directly from the World Golf Hall of Fame's collection. It has been previously referenced as an engraving with a hand water colored wash. This map makes for a truly stunning display piece.
33 3/7" tall x 22 1/2" wide. Very good condition with some foxing and tears to the extremities and typical wear and conditioning issues for its age.
