Original matte-surface 1899 bromide or gelatine chloride photograph of Scottish golfers Old Tom Morris and Freddie Tait at St Andrews during medal play. Mounted on board in vintage gray overmat. An extremely rare vintage photograph of two legends of golf. The photograph itself measures 7 7/8 x 6 inches, and the overall matted piece measures 9 3/4" x 11 3/4".

Old Tom Morris was Keeper of the Greens on the Old Course at St Andrews and won the Open Championship four times. Lieutenant F. G. (Freddie) Tait was Amateur Champion in 1896 and 1898. Tait is depicted in this photograph just before teeing off at the Old Course during his last year of life - with Old Tom Morris standing to his right. In the weeks or months after this photograph was taken, Tait left for South Africa with the Black Watch to fight in the Boer War. On February 7 1900, Tait was tragically killed. 

Condition: Print is mounted on board, unframed and overall in excellent condition with very slight foxing near upper left corner. Original overmat has light foxing and jagged edges. An historic image in great condition for its age.
