Offered here is the actual 1972 letter from the USGA to baseball Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio reversing its prior decision to rescind DiMaggio's status as an amateur golfer. 

"This is to confirm that the United States Golf Association waives its earlier statement to the effect that you were not an amateur golfer. You are now considered an amateur in accord with the Rules of Amateur Status of this Association."

"We regret that a misunderstanding occurred and are pleased that it has been resolved."

 This letter reached the collector market years ago when Hunt Auctions sold items from Joe DiMaggio's Estate.
