Presented here are two rare books/booklets produced for the 1937 Open Championship at Carnoustie.
The first is Carnoustie Commentary, which was a 52 page booklet produced to preview the upcoming 1937 Open Championship. The second is the Championship Supplement, which was a 16 page supplement that was made after the tournament, which was won by Henry Cotton.
Nowadays, course guides and tournament previews are commonplace. But Carnoustie (and the 1937 Open) may have been the first time that such great effort was made in producing such great informational booklets. The books tells the reader how to play each hole at Carnoustie, and also contains some phenomenal early golf photos from the famed course. Amazingly, it also includes a spectacular color insert map of Carnoustie for the 1937 Open Championship.
