Offered here is a circa 1900 Robert Forgan long-nose-style putter. This putter was once part of the collection of Sir Alistair Buchan-Hepburn. Sir Alistair was a long time member of the R&A and had an extensive collection of golf antiques. This putter, along with over 50 other Forgan lots, was sold by Hepburn at a Bonham's auction in 2003 in Chester, England. It was purchased by our consignor then, and has been in his collection ever since.
The Forgan stamp on crown is very faint, one can hardly see it. The 34 1/2" shaft is a replacement. The hard to read shaft stamp appears to be a circular "G. Forrester, Earlsferry" with "Elie" across the center. where parts of the Hepburn collection were sold. The finish is reworked and the neck whipping appears to be newer.
