Offered here is a rare pre-Titleist Classic I in black oxide finish with "Cartier" style script engravings.
Vog says: This is the earliest of the prototypes that eventually became the Classic I and then Newport once Scotty joined Titleist in September of 1994. In 1992 Scotty started working on this model to appeal to players on tour that liked the old Ping Anser. These early prototypes differed from the production model as some had this "Cartier style" engraving on the face. I first saw one 20 years ago and pursuing these has been one of my collecting goals since. Some were all handstamped for the tour as well. Regardless, these were only made for the tour as best as I can tell. These also were worked much more by hand compared to the production version - specifically the heel was stubbier and hand softened as well compared to the crisp lines of the final Classic I. As you can see there is no model number or any engraving on the sole.
This example has been refinished by the Cameron studio in the original and now discontinued black oxide finish, in 9.5 of 10 condition, unused since restoration. This putter has a Titleist grip, and an Art of Putting headcover.
