Offered here is a pre-Titleist, Scotty Cameron MT93 mallet with rare and unusual gooseneck.
Vog says: This is one of 40 putters Scotty made for Milton Takai and Piece of Time, the first shop in the world to carry Scotty's putters. Because of the rarity and the beautiful neck, this has always been one of my favorites - and I have one in my collection. I always knew Piece of Time was one of the earliest shops to carry Scotty's putters, but I really didn't know HOW early - until recently. I was lucky enough to talk to Scotty this year about his early history; which was somewhat akin to me having a half-completed jigsaw puzzle but being out of pieces. Scotty and his wife honeymooned in Hawaii in the mid-1980's when he stumbled upon Piece of Time in Honolulu. They carried fine golf clubs and timepieces - two things Scotty likes! Instead of Scotty making putters for Piece of Time starting around 1991 as I previously thought, he was actually making a few putters for them as early as approximately 1987 after talking to the owner, Milton Takai. It was in 1989 that he started making multiple hand made putters (Scott Camerons) a month for them! Scotty was very appreciative of Milton's support, which lead to these putters being made in 1993.
This putter has been refinished, potentially in Japan, in the original black oxide finish. It does not appear to be a Cameron custom shop refinish as there are signs on the face of prior rust, which are visible because the face was not re-milled. If so desired the successful bidder could readily send it back to Cameron's studio to be refinished.
Condition is 7.5 out of 10, 34" with original Scotty Cameron Royal pre-Titleist grip
