Here it is - the single most iconic modern golf collectible - one of Tiger Woods' actual red dot Scotty Cameron GSS backup putters.

This coveted early 2000s Tiger Woods backup putter has become the marquee modern golf collectible. There are only a handful of pieces of sports memorabilia that we can be relatively certain will be collected for centuries - Babe Ruth's bat; Muhammad Ali's gloves; Michael Jordan's shoes. When it comes to golf, there's one such item that we would add to the list above all others - Tiger Woods' red dot Scotty Cameron putters.

As you can imagine, since only a small handful of Tiger Woods Scotty Cameron backup putters were ever produced, even fewer have left Tiger's orbit and reached the collector market. Surely any Tiger Woods putter is highly valuable, but offered here is an actual GSS putter of Tiger's from the early 2000s - when Tiger's career was at its peak.

Vog says: We were ecstatic when we were offered a made for Tiger Woods GSS Newport 2 - often referred to as a "backup"- for this auction. It had one of the earliest COA's-A000017 - which is a story in itself. An early Scotty friend, Chuck Cheek, had some of his putters in the studio as "tests" for the certification process, so this was a putter that Chuck had in 2004 - and the very first Tiger backup putter ever authenticated.

I have worked painstakingly to look over (mostly in person) virtually every putter we've offered since I joined Golden Age last year, and in looking at this closely in conjunction with examining the COA (after all, if you're going to look over a putter, it's a Tiger backup!) I realized something - the putter appeared to have been restored by the studio since the COA was issued in 2004. The milling pattern didn't exactly match, and the COA pictures from 2004 showed some minor wear that was not evident on the putter in 2024. As a result we felt we should send it back in for a new COA. Premium Cameron putters should be akin to classic cars, where provenance is critical. As I've said about tour putters with initials, they SHOULD be thought of as the putter equivalent to a vintage Ferrari that was actively raced and competed at the highest level. Knowing the history is important, and we felt this history had to be shared. We have included both COAs in this auction to show the history of this putter. It is a very nice "backup" - it has the thin topline preferred by Tiger, site dot, and tri-sole.

Condition 9.5 out of 10, restored and unused since. Includes Tiger's preferred Ping blacked out grip, 35" with Circle T Pro Platinum headcover
