In this auction, we have the extreme privilege of offering items from Old Tom Morris' personal collection that have been passed down in his family since his death in 1908. The offered items are being consigned to Golden Age by an heir of Old Tom Morris, and are being seen publicly for the very first time in this auction. 

Old Tom Morris' Personal Family Photo Album

Now in our 19th year in business, this is one of our greatest finds - Old Tom Morris' family photo album. We recently discovered this historic item while searching through the personal effects of one of Old Tom Morris' heirs. To be honest, it's what we imagine many other family photo albums from the 1800s looked like - but this one is loaded with original cabinet card and carte de visite photographs of the entire Tom Morris family. And because these photos have been enclosed inside a photo album for the past 100+ years, the photos inside are exceptional. Included are stunning original cabinet cards of Old Tom Morris and Young Tom Morris, as well as their family members. Historians will also fawn over this discovery, as there had previously been no confirmed photographs of Young Tom Morris' controversial wife Margaret "Meg" Drinnen, who died in childbirth in 1875. Well, this photo album contains not one, but 2 original photographs of Tommy's wife Meg! The world will finally know exactly what Young Tom Morris' wife looked like! The album also contains numerous other previously unpublished photographs of the Morris family, including a group shot including Old Tom Morris with his rarely seen disabled son John.  

32 pages of photographs (very thick pages, as they had to fit cabinet cards and CdVs). Gold gilt edges. Almost all photos are original 1800s cabinet cards or carte de visites (there is at least 1 postcard, and 1 modern photo, neither of which are shown in this lot). Album measures 10 7/8" x 6 1/4" and 2 3/8" thick.
