Named after famed golfer Harry Vardon, Spalding began manufacturing the Vardon Flyer in 1899. In a 1901 advertisement it was celebrated as "Vardon's own ball! Manufactured in England from 'Special Gutta' and is without doubt the longest flying ball in the market today....Vardon claims for this ball a longer and truer flight."
This Vardon Flyer solid gutty ball is about as mint as they come. Though it was the most popular golf ball for a short period of time, the revolutionary Haskell rubber core golf ball made the Vardon Flyer and all other solid gutta percha balls obsolete almost overnight.
This ball is in high grade condition with 95%+ original paint. This ball is in remarkable condition because it was discovered several years ago in its original box and in the original wrappers - presumably stored there for its entire 120+ existence. You can still see some red marks on this ball, which are from the original wrappers that surrounded this ball in the box of a dozen balls.
