This the only such driver known to the auctioneer, nor is it listed or mentioned in Graham Walter's comprehensive book William Mills and The Standard Golf Company 1895-1919. So the first question to ask is, has the head been altered to achieve this unique shape?  The answer after a detailed inspection is: no, it has not been altered.  The face has a proper amount of face progression relative to the shaft, as can be seen on the sole where the tip of the shaft is visible.  There is no unevenness or other evidence of filing, sanding, or buffing anywhere on the head. The Standard Golf Company stamp is properly positioned on the crown.  And the dowel in the face extends slightly ahead of the rest of the face.  This is because the wood has swollen as would be expected across the past 100+ years since this club was constructed.  This phenomenon is similar to what is often observed with the wood dowels in the sole slips of long nose clubs.

The 40 1/2" shaft is original and the leather wrapped grip is from the period.  The sole is stamped "Model, Lie, 6 ozs 14 drs.   Fortunately, the club remains in great condition, which is not always the case with soft aluminum heads.
