This c. 1875 putter has had its finish redone back in the day, and the T. Morris stamp is difficult to make out. Enough of it is there, however, to make a positive identification. The face shows a bit of wear with grain separations that extend onto the top of the head.
The club is not perfect, but it is a handsome, good old warrior with great character as evidenced by the grip, which consists of two lengths of sheepskin combined. Whipping was applied to cover the splice. This putter has played many a round and survived those who used it. It remains as a testament to their passion for the game. No doubt, they never dreamed it would turn into a desirable, sought-after antique today. The club still has its 37 1/2" original shaft with its original St. Andrews bend, curving back towards the golfer.
The head measures 5 1/4" in length, 1 7/8" in width, and 1 1/16" in face depth.
