Coal was used to heat many Scottish homes during the early 1900s and before. Cast iron stoves were used for both heating and cooking. A short coal stove poker could come in handy, especially if the stove was smaller. This one measures 14 1/2" in length and is marked "Tom Stewart, St. Andrews" with Stewarts Pipe cleekmark.and a dot punch face. The poker end shows it was somebody's favorite! Another Stewart coal poker is pictured in Ralph Livingstons Book Thomas Stewart Jr. Golf Cleek and Iron Maker on page 312.
