Last year the World Golf Hall of Fame famously gave us Andy Warhol's Jack Nicklaus painting to auction (result: $1.1 million), and now they have given us an actual official Claret Jug from their historic collection.
This is an official Claret Jug that is hallmarked by the R&A's official trophy maker Gerrard & Co., Ltd. It was made by Gerrard for the R&A in 1985, and is hallmarked as such. It is also hallmarked with Gerrard's early hallmark, which was retired in 1986.
This is not a smaller replica made in recent years, but is a large trophy standing 14" tall. 6" wide at widest point. 33.52 troy ounces Sterling Silver. Small dent on side, and a slight lean to the trophy. A plinth could easily be created by the winning bidder to achieve the current/modern look of the Claret Jug, though this is how the Claret Jug presented for decades before the plinths were added in later years.
This trophy has been part of the World Golf Hall of Fame's impressive trophy collection for many years. It is being consigned today directly by the World Golf Hall of Fame.
