According to McGimipsey's book, The Story of the Golf Ball, this bramble ball marked "Helsby Maker" on one pole and "National" on the other was made in 1910 by the Telegraph Manufacturing Company.  There is no known ballmaker named Helsby, which was the name of a small town in England. The fact that one pole is marked 'Helsby Maker' does give one pause to at least consider the possibility that Helsby was once home to a small ballmaker.

This rubber core ball shows light use.  Very nice ball. The gutta percha cover is clearly visible over most of the ball, with the faded original paint in the background between all the brambles. This gives the ball a highly attractive, natural look.
