Faintly marked "R Forgan" on the back of the head, this circa 1885 putter has a thick blade and sizeable hosel.  The 36 1/2" shaft is original, the leather wrap grip is a modern replacement but matches the period well.  The shaft is stamped R. Forgan & Son, St. Andrews. The hosel measures 4 5/8" in length and .713" in thickness. During the long nose era iron putters were rarely used, so few were made.  This example has a distinctly long hosel and thick blade, characteristics of pre-1890 iron putters..
