Offered here is an original circa 1850s small oval photograph of George Glennie. Glennie was the greatest amateur golfer of his era, and won nearly every significant amateur golf tournament of the day. An 1899 Golf Illustrated article stated "The whole golfing world knows the name George Glennie. He broke the medal record in St Andrews, for the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, in 1855, when he scored 88."

This small original oval photograph was found behind a lithograph bearing the identical image - this clearly being the original on which the litho was based. A rare original photograph of a significant figure in early golf history.

This George Glennie photo was previously owned by Tom Morris biographer Peter Crabtree, and was part of his legendary collection.
