Offered here is a truly historic find.

The George Glennie Medal is one of the great trophies in golf. There are actually 2 nearly identical medals - one competed for by members of the Royal & Ancient, and the other by members of Royal Blackheath. 

Offered in this auction are an original proof medal from the 1890s upon which those medals are based, as well as the original sketches for those medals, and even the original cabinet card photograph upon which those legendary medals are based. 

Included in this lot are the following:

1. Original circa 1891 Proof Medal, bronze for the George Glennie Medal, struck by Alex Kirkwood & Sons, and stamped on the medal with Kirkwood details (1 7/8" diameter) 

2. Original Cabinet Card Photograph of George Glennie by 19th Century St Andrews Photographer Thomas Rodger. Inscribed on the card "George Glennie, Esq, for the Glennie Medal."

3. Pencil drawing/sketch of George Glennie medal to used in striking it

4. Another Pencil drawing/sketch of the medal design for Royal Blackheath.

These historic George Glennie medal documents and bronze proof was acquired by Tom Morris biographer and historian Peter Crabtree directly from Alex Kirkwood & Sons. Until that acquisition, they had remained in the Kirkwood & Sons archives for well over a century.
