Offered here is the great Freddie Tate's personal copy of arguably the most significant 19th century golf image. This is an original large cabinet card photograph of Old & Young Tom Morris.

Historians have long debated when this photo was taken, though current scholarship dates it to the days following Tommy's 1870 Open Championship victory. This was Young Tom's 3rd consecutive victory, which allowed him to keep the Challenge Belt for good.

This iconic image was taken by celebrated early St Andrews photographer Thomas Rodger, and this is a coveted large cabinet card photograph.

The cabinet card is 4 1/4" x 6 1/2".

This historic cabinet card was discovered when our consignor purchased the personal collection of the great Freddie Tait. Tait won the 1896 and 1898 British Amateurs before dying at age 30 as part of the Black Watch during the Second Boer War.

We previously sold Old Tom Morris' copy of this iconic Thomas Rodger image for a record $85,350.
