Authentic Eisenhower "Bobby
Jones" Print Signed by Bobby Jones
Presented here is one of the most famous golf prints of all-time.
Amazingly, the painting which inspired this print is more famous for the person
who copied the painting than the one who first painted it. While this
painting of Bobby Jones was first created by portrait painter Thomas Stevens,
Stevens encouraged President Dwight D. Eisenhower to take up painting and this
was one of the General's first completed works. As reported by TIME
Magazine, President Eisenhower presented the painting to Bobby Jones on
Saturday, March 7, 1953 after spending 6 weeks working on the project, as
depicted in the photograph provided below. The humble Eisenhower did not
think much of his painting, and described his painting ability as "awkward" in
that presentation ceremony.
But, apparently, Bobby Jones was very fond of the gesture by the great
President, as presented here is an actual, original print of the Eisenhower
painting that was given by Bobby Jones to Suffield Country Club. The
bottom of the print contains Jones' handwritten notation to the club and his
signature.
This print has suffered some water damage, but no attempt has yet been made to
professionally restore it, and it still remains a stunning original example of
this famous painting. The original painting hangs at Augusta National;
this original signed print can hang in the house of the winning bidder.
