Contestant's Pin
Presented here is a rare contestant's medal from one of the leading Amateur
tournaments in the world, the Western Amateur. The tournament started in
1899, and has been won by a Who's Who of golfing legends, including Francis
Ouimet, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. This rare medal was used by one of
the competitor's in the 1941 Western Amateur, which was won by three-time winner
Bud Ward. Ward was one of the best amateurs of the 1930s and 40s. He
won the U.S. Amateur twice, and came within one stroke at the 1939 U.S. Open as
an amateur!
