1935 Masters Program
Prior to the
1990's, programs were produced for only the 1934 and 1935 Masters (then called
the Augusta National Invitation). These rare programs from those first
two tournaments have gained a sort of legendary status among Masters Collectors,
and are among the rarest of all Masters Memorabilia. Interestingly, the
1935 Masters Tournament Program is even more scarce than the program from the
inaugural Masters. While over a dozen authentic 1934 Masters Programs are
known (one changed hands in 2008 for $12,500), less then a half dozen authentic
1935 Masters Programs are known to exist - and this is the first one to offered
to the public in several years.
The 1935 Masters is quite possibly the most famous Masters Tournament in
history. Then considered simply a nice, small invitational tournament,
Gene Sarazen famously put the tournament on the map with his double eagle on the
15th hole on Sunday that catapulted him to victory. Only a handful of
items from the 1935 Masters Tournament are known to exist. With the
exception of Sarazen's 4-wood and ball from his "shot heard 'round the world"
that are currently in the possession of Augusta National Golf Club, this is the
single greatest piece of memorabilia from the 1935 Masters.
