Augusta National Property Owner R.C.
Berkmans Signed Card
Bobby Jones looked all over the South to find a property that was the perfect
fit for his dream golf course. He stumbled upon the property in sleepy
Augusta Georgia. What is now the most famous golf course in the world,
Augusta National Golf Club, was then a former plant nursery. The prior
owners of the property, The Berkmans family, were prominent horticulterers.
The original property owner, Prosper Berkmans, had a son that was equally as
into plants as he was. That son was Robert Craig (R.C.) Berkmans. He
is well-known in horticulture circles for re-discovering the rareyellow
magnolia; but among golf fans, he is much more famous for being one of the
sellers of the property that became Augusta National Golf Club - home of the
Masters Tournament. This is certainly one of the only signatures of R.C.
Berkmans in existence.
