1934 Craig Wood and Denny Shute Signed Wire Photo

Presented here on one original vintage 1934 news Wire photograph are two of the most elusive Major Championship winner autographs - Craig Wood and Denny Shute. Nearly every autograph collection of past Major Champions are missing the two autographs for auction here.

CRAIG WOOD 1941 Masters; 1941 U.S. Open (Deceased: 1968)

The Masters Tournament has been played since 1934. Of all those great Masters Champions, one autograph is harder to obtain than all the others - the signature of 1941 Masters Champion Craig Wood. Wood stopped playing professional golf in the late 1940's and passed away over 40 years ago, in 1968. Of Masters Champions, only Horton Smith died earlier, although Smith's autographs are more prevalent than Wood's.

Craig Wood also won the 1941 U.S. Open, and is one of the most difficult U.S. Open autographs to obtain of the last 75 years.

DENNY SHUTE 1933 British Open; 1936 & 1937 PGA Championship (Deceased: 1974)

Trying to add to your PGA Championship or Open Championship winner's autograph collection? Well, Denny Shute's signature is the most difficult autograph to obtain of all post-1930 PGA Championship winners, and one of the 3 most difficult Open Championship autographs over that same time period.

THE PHOTO

This is an original 1934 photograph of Craig Wood and Denny Shute with their wives in Australia at the Metropolitan Club. This great photograph has been signed by the two great Major Champions, as well as their wives. The rarity of this piece simply cannot be explained. Judging by the inclusion of signatures of the wives on the photo as well, these autographs were almost certainly obtained shortly after this photo was taken. Therefore, not only does this photo contain the elusive autographs of these great champions, but it contains two of the earliest known Wood and Shute autographs in existence - including a signature of Craig Wood 7 years before his Masters Tournament victory! A 1934 Melbourne Herald Newspaper clipping included.
