Rare Eddie Lowery (Francis Ouimet's Caddie) Autograph

The 1913 U.S. Open is widely regarded as the birth of golf as a major sport in the United States. Golf had long been dominated by the greats of Europe - guys like Harry Vardon, Ted Ray, J.H. Taylor and James Braid. But that would all change at the 1913 U.S. Open, when an unknown American local boy named Francis Ouimet shocked the world.

Ouimet's story has long been the stuff of legend, but what may be the best part of the story is Ouimet's caddy that week. As was made famous in Mark Frost's book The Greatest Game Ever played and the resulting Disney movie of the same name, Ouimet's caddy that helped him win the most important golf tournament in American history was 10-year old Eddie Lowery. That's right, long before caddy's became well-known professionals, Ouimet used a schoolboy barely big enough to carry his clubs.

Presented here is a rare autograph of Eddie Lowery - the first we have ever offered. Be sure to also check out our other lots containing the signatures of the other principal players in that historic 1913 U.S. Open, Francis Ouimet, Harry Vardon and Ted Ray.
