The Ryder Cup
1959 US Amateur Contestants Badge - Jack
Nicklaus' First!
The tournament that started it all! At the 1959 U.S. Amateur, a young Ohioan
named Jack Nicklaus defeated two-time Amateur Champion and favorite Charles Coe
in the championship 36-hole match by birdieing the final hole. Nicklaus then
challenged at the next year's U.S. Open and won the U.S. Amateur again in 1961
before turning pro. Obviously, the rest is history; but it all started with this
1959 U.S. Amateur victory.
This is an actual contestant's badge
from the 1959 U.S. Amateur - quite possibly the most significant piece of
memorabilia ever offered from that historic tournament.
