1931 U.S. Open Program
The 1931 U.S. Open was famously left
without a defending champion when Bobby Jones retired after completing the Grand
Slam in 1930. Without Jones, fans attending the 1931 U.S. Open tournament were
treated to one of the most spectacular golf tournaments in history. Billy Burke
and George Von Elm were tied at the end of the tournament and required 72
additional holes to determine a winner - Billy Burke.
Very few 1931 U.S. Open Programs are
known. This particular program is in great condition. It contains a message and
photograph from Bobby Jones on the back cover, and a story about Jones'
retirement inside.
