1892 Freddie Tait Photo

Taken 4 Years Before His 1896 Amateur Win

Freddie Tait was one of the greatest golfers of his day. He won the 1896 and 1898 British Amateur and finished 3rd twice in the Open Championship before his untimely death in the Second Boer War. Due to the fact that Tait's career only lasted a few years, and he died 110 years ago, in 1900, very few authentic Tait memorabilia exist.

This is certainly one of the earliest pieces of Tait memorabilia in existence - an actual photograph of the great champion on the course at Sandwich. The fact that this photograph even exists is spectacular, as Tait didn't even win his first British Amateur for 4 more years after this photograph was taken. Why it was even taken in the first place will probably never be known, but it provides us with one of the earliest, if not the earliest, photograph of Freddie Tait on the golf course in existence.  This beautiful original photo measures approximately 2 3/4" x 3 3/4".
