1997 Masters Flag
Here it is, the holy grail of
souvenir golf flags. This flag started the golf flag craze in the late 90's and
early 2000's, and will no doubt lead the golf flag market for decades to come.
This fully-embroidered flag was only sold at the 1997 Masters Tournament. The
flag sold out very quickly in the merchandise tent in 1997. Then, after Tiger
Woods' historic first Major Championship victory, it seemed that every golf
collector coveted the chance to own this flag. Before this flag and that
tournament, there wasn't a re-sale market for golf flags. With the 1997 Masters
flag leading the way, that soon changed. The 1997 Masters flag was the first
unsigned souvenir flag to ever sell for over $100 (in 1999); the first to sell
for over $1,000 (in 2001); and the first to ever sell for over $5,000 (in 2008).
In fact, a couple years ago 2 unsigned 1997 Masters flags sold on eBay, one for
$5800 and another for $5300! And with virtually all of the 1997 Masters flags
now signed by Tiger, this is a rare chance to obtain an unsigned flag. The
winning bidder can keep this flag unsigned and watch its value continue to
increase, or enlist us to have Tiger sign it through Upper Deck Authenticated
(creating a $5,000+ flag immediately). Certificate of Authenticity from Green
Jacket Auctions.
