Old Tom Morris-Bob Kirk
Dual-Stamped Long Nose Putter
(Only a Couple Examples Known)
Robert "Bob" Kirk, Sr. is famous for
being Old Tom Morris' caddie, who was also a well respected early player in his
own right. He competed in 8 Open Championships and finished 2nd in 1870 - to Tom
Morris, Jr.
Very little is known about this dual-stamped Morris-Kirk long nose putter,
other than the significant fact that only a couple examples are known to exist.
It was almost certainly made by Old Tom Morris for Kirk Sr. himself, and then
Kirk added his own stamp to the club. Was this putter made by the grandfather of
golf, Old Tom Morris, and then personally used by his friend and caddie Kirk,
himself? That possibility cannot be answered definitively, but it is certainly
worth considering. A copy of the famous circa 1845 golf photo showing Morris and Kirk together is shown below
This Morris-Kirk putter is in exceptional condition, and is certainly one of the
finest Old Tom Morris clubs in existence.
