The Ryder Cup
Scarce Early 1960's Augusta National
"Champions' Dinner" Plate
Presented here is the exceedingly rare and coveted early 1960's Augusta National
"Champions Dinner" plate. These rare plates have long been used by Augusta
National as the dinner plates at the annual Champions' Dinner during Masters
Week. A great example of this can been seen below in a photo of the 1968
Champions' Dinner, which depicts these plates being used. The picture comes from
page 34 of the 1973 book The Masters: Profile of a Tournament (The one with the
fancy Green Jacket cover). In addition to being used annually at the Champions'
Dinner, these plates were also originally awarded as prizes at the Par 3 Contest
in the 1960's before crystal was first awarded by Augusta National.
These elusive plates were made
in very limited quantities in the early 1960's (this is plate #360), and
frequently command top dollar when found (see Green Jacket Auctions Archived
Auction, Spring 2007 - Plate #399 sold for $3,521).
