The Ryder Cup
Scarce 1930 U.S. Women's Amateur
Contestant's Badge
The USGA has been making strikingly similar contestant's badges for its
tournaments for almost a century, which have become some of the most
sought-after pieces of golf memorabilia. Once - and only once - the USGA used a
unique silver, red and white color combination to create its contestant badges -
for the 1930 Women's U.S. Amateur. In the 1930 Women's Championship, there were
only 94 starters and the tournament was played at the venerable Los Angeles
Country Club in Beverly Hills, California. This exact badge was issued to and
worn by Opal S. Hill of Meadow Lake, Missouri. Miss Hill was on the first three
US Curtis Cup teams and was an exceptional player. This badge is all original
and in perfect condition.
