Doug Sanders' 1965 Pensacola Open

Winner's Gold Medal

THE DOUG SANDERS COLLECTION

Offered in this auction are some exceptional pieces of memorabilia from the personal collection of former PGA Tour star Doug Sanders. Doug Sanders won 20 times on the PGA Tour, and finished in the top 4 in every Major Championship. Despite his overwhelming success as a professional golfer, Mr. Sanders is notoriously remembered for missing a 3-foot putt to win the 1970 Open Championship at St. Andrews - a tournament that Jack Nicklaus would go on to win by one stroke in a playoff the next day.

The PGA Tour famously presents the winner of each tournament with a gold medal. For obvious reasons, very few PGA Tour winners' gold medals have ever become available to collectors. Presented in this lot is the actual winner's Gold Medal from Doug Sanders' victory at the 1965 Pensacola Open, when he defeated Jack Nicklaus in a playoff for his 13th PGA Tour victory. We will start the bidding on this exquisite 27.6 gram 14k gold medal at its approximate gold melt value of $880.
