Actual Wicker Basket from Merion Putting
Green
When we first saw this wicker back in the summer of 2012 we were blown away. So was the winning bidder as a frenzy ensued. We thought this would be hidden away for years. Sure enough, we were able to get our hands on a full size wicker and the same bidder HAD to have it. This made room for him to resell this fantastic piece. This is an original wicker basket from the
putting green at famed Merion Golf Club. In golf's early days, obtaining
additional information about the wind was considered an unfair advantage by
many. Therefore, wicker baskets were often used to identify a pin location
instead of the now-universal flags. This practice of using wicker baskets is
still famously employed by Merion Golf Club. These handmade baskets are the
stuff of legend, and Merion goes to great lengths to ensure that no Merion
wicker basket ever leaves the grounds. Offered here is an original Merion wicker
basket from the legendary course's putting green. It measures 19" tall total,
with the wicker basket accounting for approximately 7" of that total.
