1929 Walter Hagen
Blasts Out of the Sand Trap Photo
As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
This is a stunning original 1929
photograph of the great Walter Hagen blasting out of a sand trap at Royal St.
George's in England. Hagen played at Royal St. George's in 1929 during
preparations for the second-ever Ryder Cup Matches, which were held at nearby
Moortown Golf Club in Leeds, England.
Large 8"x10" photograph is in very
nice condition overall - with a solitary pinhole at the top border. Reverse has
full paper caption and stamps from Acme and NEA. NEA stamp from January 1932
when the photo was likely distributed or archived, though the photograph is
unquestionably from 1929.
