1935 Masters Tournament Cachet

This is the very first time we've had the privilege of offering this scarce 1935 Masters Tournament First Day Cover (FDC). The 1935 Masters Tournament turned out to be one of the most historic golf tournaments of all-time - when Gene Sarazen's double eagle made headlines around country. But Sarazen hadn't yet put the Masters Tournament on the map when this cache was released on the opening day of the 1935 Masters.

Masters historians will note that this is one of the only times you will see this the tournament listed at the "$5,000 Masters Tournament". It was popular to put the total purse amount in the tournament title back in the 1930's, though the Masters Tournament usually refrained from this practice.
