1930 U.S. Amateur Badge
(Bobby Jones Grand Slam)
The 1930 U.S. Amateur may be the most important golf tournament of the 20th
century - as Bobby Jones completed the Grand Slam. It's a tournament that will
be talked about for as long as we still play the game of golf.
Unfortunately for collectors, very
few original pieces of memorabilia exist from the 1930 U.S. Amateur - save for a
handful of programs which are worth $10,000+ apiece.
Offered here is a 1930 U.S. Amateur
badge which very well may be the only surviving example. This is an original
Reception Badge from the 1930 U.S. Amateur, which still contains its ornate
ribbon which reads "U.S. National Golf Championship - Merion Cricket Club,
Haverford, PA - Sept 22-27". Surely the only reason that this piece exists at
all today is that someone many years ago was wise enough to preserve the ribbon
with a felt backing.
This original 1930 U.S. Amateur badge
measures 1 7/8" x 3 1/2". It is, without question, one of the finest pieces of
memorabilia from the final leg of Bobby Jones' Grand Slam that still exists.
