Jack Nicklaus Ping Anser Putter
(Possibly Unique with Ping Letter)
Even Ping didn't know what to make of this putter. Collectors are all familiar with the Slazenger-Jack Nicklaus putter that was produced in the 1960s, but offered here is a Karsten Ping Anser "Jack Nicklaus" putter. No reference to Slazenger or any other manufacturer.
Accompanying this putter is a 1997 letter from Kasten Manufacturing Co./Ping stating that they do not know anything about this putter or whether any other examples exist. According to Ping, the "Jack Nicklaus" stamp "appears to be the same stamp/press that Slazenger used for the 'Slazenger/Jack Nicklaus' putter heads that we sent to England in 1968." However, with no Slazenger name attached to this putter, Ping was stumped as to its origins. The letter goes on to state that Ping does "not know how many, if any, additional putters such as this exist."
