Original memorabilia from Francis Ouimet's three Major Championship
victories are exceedingly rare. There simply are not many pieces in the
hobby. Offered here is a scarce original program from Ouimet's 1931 US
Amateur victory at Beverly Country Club in Chicago, Illinois.
The program contains a nice picture of defending Champion Bobby Jones and the U.S, Amateur Havemeyer trophy. The year before Jones captured the championship at Merion to complete his “Grand Slam”. There is also an aerial picture of the Beverly Country Club course showing the Donald Ross layout from a “birds eye” view.
Another nice feature of this copy of the program is that the original owner in the “Keep Your Record of the Tournament” section of the program has neatly penciled the match play results in.
Back in 2004, this program was listed in Gilchrist's Guide to Golf Collectibles at $1500, though it has certainly appreciated well beyond that figure in the past 12 years.
