The
ancient game of Colf is considered my many to be a precursor to the game
of golf. Not to be confused with the later "Kolf", Colf was primarily
played in the Netherlands speaking
part of the Low Countries, the present Netherlands and Flanders. The
first mention of the game was in 1261, but the game died off in the late
17th century. Quite significantly, Colf was an outdoor game, unlike the
later "Kolf", which was played indoors. Here is more information about
Colf: http://www.ancientgolf.dse.nl/colfuk.htm
Offered
here is an ancient, possibly circa 1600s, Colf club head. A phenomenal piece to
represent the ancient origins of the game of golf.
