Old Tom Morris was the son of a linen weaver when he was born in 1821. When he passed away in 1908, it was announced in newspapers across the globe. Such was the impact of Old Tom.
Offered here is an original 1909 Tom Morris Memorial Cup medal from the Western Golf Association. Despite the fact that Old Tom never got to visit the United States, his disciples were some of the most influential golfers and golf course designers in the early years of golf in America. The Western Golf Association apparently hosted a golf tournament in Old Tom's honor in the year after Tom Morris' passing.
The front contains an exceptional relief of Old Tom Morris bust, as well as "Tom Morris Memorial Cup, WGA." The reverse is engraved with "Denver Country Club, A.C. Travis 1909." 1 3/8" diameter copper medal on 3 1/2" ribbon.
