Handel Lidded Milk Glass Stein
w/ ‘Harvard’ Crest
Very rare Handel lidded milk glass stein with hand-painted transfer golf scene and an exceptionally rare crest for Harvard on the opposite side. 4 ½” H; 5 ½” H with lid. 3 ¾” diameter at base. ca 1910 – 1930s. This piece is not marked, but the consignor has several other pieces with a similar golf scene that are marked ‘HANDEL’ on the bottom. Per Sprung’s book, Decorative Golf Collectibles, the company was founded in Meriden, Connecticut in 1885; was incorporated in 1903; and continued operating until 1936. Crazing is visible, but no chips, cracks or repairs. The handle is tight. This is an unusual piece seldom seen.
