O'Hara Dial Lidded Stein, Circa 1900

Offered here is a Circa 1900 O’Hara Dial porcelain lidded beer stein.  Hand painted.  Unusual bulbous shape with an Indian head insert in the pewter lid.  5 ½” H.  4 ½” wide at base.  Per Sprung’s book, Decorative Golf Collectibles, O’Hara Dial Co. was primarily a watch dial manufacturer from 1890 – 1912 in Waltham, Massachusetts, but also made the inlay lids found on their steins. The Ceramic Arts Company (which later became Lenox) was commissioned to produce the bodies of the steins, complete with the pewter lids, into which O’Hara’s inlays were inserted.  The inclusion of ‘Paris, France’ on the mark refers to the French location through which O’Hara Dial distributed to Europe and Japan.  Other than some minor crazing and small missing paint flecks, common on hand-painted porcelain pieces, this stein is in very good condition.  The lid is nice and tight.  No chips, cracks, repairs.
