Offered here is a circa 1918-1919 Spalding Patent "Ded Stop Mashie Niblick" fitted with a Lard's Patent "Whistler" Perforated Steel Shaft. When swung, the perforated steel shaft would create a whistling sound, hence its nickname. According to Jeff Ellis, "Allan Lard's perforated steel shaft was produced by Spalding for only two years."
