Offered here is a circa 1914 Jack White drilled-face "The Deadun" backspin/water iron. This club was intended to deaden impact to reduce the distance the ball would roll once it landed. It also allowed the golfer to used to hit a ball out of shallow water. According to Jeff Ellis, "this example is one of just a few known"
This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and was featured in his books, The Golf Club (p. 112) and The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 233; TCA 2, p. 271). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
