Offered here are two circa 1911 scared neck "F. Murray Patent" clubs by William Gibson of Kinghorn - a driving mashie and a putter. According to Jeff Ellis, "Frank Murray was the only clubmaker to design and patent iron heads that attach to the shaft using a splice-neck joint like that found on all long nose clubs. It received positive press attention, but seems to have closed early as it is rarely seen."

These clubs originate from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and these exact clubs were featured in his books The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 156; TCA 2, p. 180). These clubs have not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
