Offered here is the stunning original Walter Hagen Cup trophy presented to the winner of the PGA of America’s Professional Championship. Known by many as simply the "PGA Club Pro", this annual national tournament features 144 club professionals playing for the Walter Hagen Cup and 20 coveted spots in that year’s PGA Championship field. The circular coins on the base of the trophy begin in 1968, the first year the tournament was held, and run through 1991 when a new crystal trophy was obtained to replace this one. In 1971, Sam Snead won the tournament at Pinehurst. There are 34 circular coins on the base, engraved with 22 golfers' names, including Sam Snead.
The front of the trophy is engraved the “Walter Hagen Cup” right above the PGA of America's seal. Getty image #1004439414 shows PGA officials, including President Joe Black, presenting this trophy to 1978 winner John Gentile.
This impressive solid sterling silver trophy measures 18" high x 20" wide x 18" deep, and weighs nearly 30 pounds. The top of the trophy measures approximately 13" x 14” and sits in the center of an outline of the United States.
