Stamped “Spalding Golf Medal” on the back of its head, this Cran cleek has a thick, hollowed out iron head with a wood insert inlaid in the face.  The wood inlay has a few light "stress fractures" as shown in the images, but the wood is original and the club still presents well.  The 38 1/2" shaft, grip, and wood insert are original.

Designed to offer the golfer the durability of an iron with the feel of a wood, this club was produced under an 1897 US Design Patent issued to James Cran. It was the tenth US patent issued for a golf club.  From top to bottom, this is a good, honest example of this popular collectible.  Somebody actually played golf with it!.  TCA2 V1 p393.
