This Tom Dunn play club features a sleek and shapely head, complimented by an old leather repair to the toe that has been beautifully executed. The head measures 5 3/4" in length, 1 7/8" in width, and 2 1/8" in face depth.

The original finish on the head remains rich and strong. The 44 1/2" shaft is original. The sheepskin grip retains its original counter-wound whipping, a feature that rarely survives on old grips.

Tom Dunn, son of the famed Willie Dunn and brother of Willie Dunn Jr., learned clubmaking from his father. He began his career as a clubmaker at North Berwick in 1870 before moving to the London Scottish Golf Club in Wimbledon. In 1881, he returned to North Berwick to resume his duties as custodian of the links.

In addition to being a skilled clubmaker from one of the most famous 19th-century golf families, Dunn was a prolific golf course architect, designing 137 courses, many outside Great Britain.

Tom married Elizabeth Gourlay of the renowned ballmaking family. Their two sons, John Duncan Dunn and Seymour Gourlay Dunn, moved to America, where they became well-known and respected figures in the golf world.
